ACCORDING to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, 205 primary and secondary English teachers have received Teaching English in English (TEE) certificates, a standard developed by the education office and the first of its kind in South Korea, JoongAng Daily has reported.
The certificate award is based on teaching experience, performance in training courses from the education office, and scores on an exam that gauges speaking, writing, reading, listening and presentation. There are two types of TEE certificate: the TEE-Ace and TEE-Master. Those who have taught for three years or more and have taken over 300 hours of training through the education office are eligible to apply for an Ace certificate, while the Master certificate requires seven or more years of teaching experience and over 800 hours of training.
Teachers who obtain the certificate are given various benefits which include free English language training overseas. The results of the tests are made available to students and parents.
