CHINA Central Television and some provincial TV stations said on April 6 that they had received a notice from the State Administration (局) of Radio, Film and Television, asking them to stop using English abbreviations (缩略词) in their Chinese programs. “NBA (National Basketball Association)”, “GDP (Gross Domestic Product)”, and “WTO (World Trade Organization)” are on the list. TV stations have to use their Chinese translations.
