THE words “British” and “English” might seem interchangeable to many Chinese. But to people who call the UK home, their meanings can be quite different. “English” is often used to describe white locals with ancestral roots in England. “British”, on the other hand, is often used to refer to the greater population – to citizens with different skin colors and immigrant backgrounds in the United Kingdom.
