Chinese gymnast Zhang Chenglong won the gold medal on the horizontal bar at the world gymnastics championships in the Netherlands on Sunday. Zhang’s final routine was a display of precision, control and raw power. Zhang built gradually to the climax of his routine, winding himself up in order to build the momentum. He finally exploded into the air, releasing from the bar with exquisite timing. After a perfectly controlled aerial somersault, Zhang slightly overbalanced on landing which caused him to fall forwards. Despite this, he was able pull himself upright in one smooth, swift motion.
