A BRITISH girl is so desperate (拼命的) to learn Korean that she has had surgery (外科手术) to make her tongue (舌头) longer, according to UK newspaper the Daily Mail. Rhiannon Brooksbank-Jones, 19, had difficulty producing crucial Korean sounds because her tongue was slightly shorter than average. The operation involved cutting the skin joining the tongue to the bottom of the mouth, making her tongue about 1cm longer. Rhiannon hopes to do a four-year course in Korean Studies and Business Management at the University of Sheffield in England, which includes a year at Seoul University in the Republic of Korea. “I’d love to live and work in South Korea one day and being able to speak perfectly will really benefit me,” she said. “For me it was an important thing, because I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and if I can’t do it perfectly, it really irritates (激怒) me.”
