As one of the world’s most popular coffee shop chains, Starbucks is no stranger to controversy in China. Five years ago, it closed a shop in Beijing’s Forbidden City after a well-known TV *anchorman raised doubts over whether the US brand fit culturally into the most recognizable symbol of ancient Chinese culture and history, to the applause of some and the *dismay of others.
