A BRAVE heart wants to go where no man has gone before. Yuri Gagarin, a former Soviet Union air force pilot (前苏联空军飞行员), did exactly that. On April 12, 1961, he became the first person to travel in space. In the spacecraft Vostok 1, he moved around Earth for 108 minutes. At the highest point, Gagarin was about 327 kilometers above Earth. He was the first man to see that Earth was indeed round, mostly water, and magnificent (壮观的). His trip also started a new era (时代) in space exploration (探索). Gagarin was killed in a plane accident in 1968.
