Thirteen years after they were first introduced to consumers in the United States, the self-balancing electric vehicle called the Segway made news in China after being banned on the roads of major cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing. In Beijing, traffic regulation authorities have started cracking down on Segways and other similar self-balancing vehicles, as well as electronic skateboards, on the grounds that they pose potential dangers to riders and other people. Those found to be riding these vehicles on roads could be warned or fined.
