The only city in the world that is in two continents, Istanbul – once known as Constantinople – is also part of both the ancient and modern worlds. As travel website Fodor’s puts it, nowhere is quite like Istanbul, which “has for centuries been a lively city with one foot in Europe and the other in Asia”.
