After much *controversy, the central government may soon roll out nationwide policy guidelines for online taxi-*hailing services such as Uber and Didi, the China Youth Daily reported. The new guidelines, expected by the end of this month, would seek to establish unified standards to regulate the industry, which is undergoing explosive growth. Big players like Uber and Didi have received billions of dollars worth of investments. According to China Youth Daily, the new guidelines may require that all vehicles employed by these services switch from private vehicle registration to commercial vehicle registration. That means the drivers would have to obtain professional *certification, and the prices they charge would have to be at least 50 percent higher than taxi fare in the same cities.
