A US warship, the USS Lassen, sailed within 12 *nautical miles of an artificial island that China has built around Zhubi *Reef in the South China Sea on Oct 27. The Chinese government has *denounced the move as an illegal *incursion threatening China’s *sovereignty and security interests, and Chinese generals have warned that conflicts might break out between Chinese and US naval forces if the US continues to do this.
