The case against scriptwriter Yu Zheng has finally been laid to rest. Taiwan romance novelist Chiung Yao (琼瑶) was suing Yu for *plagiarism. A court in Beijing rejected an appeal by Yu on Dec 18, and the *defendant was ordered to apologize publicly to Chiung and pay 5 million yuan to her. The dispute started in 2014 when Chiung claimed Yu had copied her works for the *screenplay of Hunan TV’s popular drama The Palace: The Lost Daughter (《宫锁连城》). She said that the screenplay was based in part on her novel Meihualao (《梅花烙》) but that Yu had never sought permission to use her work.
