Celebrating by getting clean:

People pour water on one another as they celebrate Clean Monday, also known as Wet Monday, in Lviv in western Ukraine. Clean Monday first means cleansing (清洗) yourself ahead of the coming of spring. Later on, with the spread of Christianity, the meaning of this festival was also extended (延伸) to cleansing souls of sins (原罪). Ukrainians celebrate Clean Monday on the first day after Orthodox Easter, which fell on May 1 this year. On that day, all men are armed with bottles and buckets of water and pour water over women from head to toe. According to the tradition, the most beautiful woman in the town is the wettest. But nowadays, naughty guys splash (泼) any girl they see – just for fun!
