On Aug 9, China’s rising star of the *backstroke, Fu Yuanhui, tied for a bronze medal in the women’s 100-meter backstroke. The swimmer has become a hot topic on social media since a video of a poolside interview went viral the previous day. After the semi-final, when asked if she had saved some energy for the final, Fu answered with a startled face: “I’ve been utilizing my ‘pre-historical’ power” (a popular online phrase in China which literally means the power of nature that can turn the world upside down). Many internet users expressed their affection for the hilarious Wu, calling her “the comedian of the swimming profession”.
