Normally carried out by organized groups from Nigeria, West Africa, scammers take to the popular *auction site to try con sellers out of their goods. Criminals will “buy” expensive items from private sellers then ask for a PayPal *invoice. Once the invoice is received, they craft a real-looking email, purportedly from PayPal itself, asking for a tracking number for the funds to be released to the seller. Those who fall for the trick end up posting their item to the scammer, who never sends payment for it.
