Q
Dear Dale,
I get frustrated easily, and sometimes I end up yelling at people I love. I’m not sure why it happens, but I have no control over it. How can I stop doing this? Catherine

Dear Catherine,
Sometimes, it’s difficult for people to control their emotions, especially teenagers. Anger can be like an uncontrollable force that takes us over. But don’t worry, there are lots of things you could do to control your temper (脾气).
The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) says you can choose to deal with anger in different ways if you recognize you’re about to become angry.
For example, if your heartbeat is faster than usual and you’re breathing more deeply, these are both signs that anger is coming.
In these cases, the simplest solution would be to just walk away from the situation. For example, if you’re in a conversation with someone who’s making you feel angry, just go to another room to calm down. You’ll feel a whole lot better after doing this.
The second choice would be to slowly count to 10 in your head. This would give your body time to cool down and relax.
Breathing exercises also help. We automatically breathe in more air when we’re angry, so try breathing out longer than you breathe in.
Also, going for a run or working out could help release some of the extra tension (紧张) in your body.
But maybe the best idea would be to talk to your loved ones about your problem. If they understand what you’re going through, they may be able to help calm you down if they sense you’re about to become angry.
As there are many different ways to solve anger issues, I suggest searching online to find more. In these kinds of situations, it’s about finding the way that works for you.
Dale
