Internet access seen as a right

In most cases, the very first thing that we ask for when visiting a cafe or friend’s house is the WiFi password (密码). It’s almost like internet has become one of our basic needs. But according to technology website Digital Trends, up to 60 percent of people in the world still don’t have an internet connection. The situation is even worse in the least developed countries – only one in every 10 people has regular access to the internet. That’s why in a survey in the US, 68 percent of them think of internet access as a privilege instead of a human right, as shown in the graphic above.
