A
Dear Lake,
Being shy is really common among all of us, no matter who we are. But the good news is that anyone can overcome (克服) shyness quite easily.
Shyness is mainly caused by caring too much about what other people think of us, particularly (尤其) if we think someone is going to laugh at us.
However, one thing you should always remember is that we’re only on this planet for a small amount of time. That means you shouldn’t waste time thinking about what others think of you. Instead, just focus on (关注) how you feel about yourself.
Building up your confidence isn’t something that can happen overnight.
So first, take a few small steps, such as putting your hand up in class more, or making small talk with people in your neighborhood.
Second, try not to think about what other people think of you, because it’s impossible to know that – plus, it doesn’t matter. As the English proverb (谚语) says, “What other people think of you is none of your business.”
The less time you spend thinking about how other people might judge (评判) your actions, the more time you can spend on actually carrying them out.
And when it comes to speaking to girls, all you need to remember is one word: “Hello.”
All good friendships start with a simple greeting, so once you feel confident enough to approach (接近) other people, all you need is this single word, and you’ll find yourself talking for hours. Dale
