JUST ASK | 成长不烦恼

本文作者: teens
Q

Dear Dale,

I always get addicted to (沉迷) TV series. I can’t help thinking about the characters after watching them. When a series ends, I always feel a hole in my heart. What should I do?

Fancy

A

Dear Fancy,

Many of us are fans of TV series, and as long as you’re keeping up with your schoolwork, it’s not a bad thing to relax and watch TV.

In fact, you could turn your guilt (愧疚) into a creative hobby by writing stories based on your favorite characters.

Indeed, many popular books and movies once began as fan fiction stories, written by people just like you.

The musical Wicked, for example, started life as a fan fiction novel written by US author Gregory Maguire. He was a huge fan of the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, and decided to write a story about the green-skinned witch (女巫) from the movie.

The rest, as they say, is history.

And the short story Folding Beijing, written by Chinese author Hao Jingfang, was originally (最初地) created to be shared with Hao’s university friends. Soon after, however, the story was published in several magazines, and later won a Hugo award.

There’s nothing to be ashamed (惭愧的) of if you enjoy watching TV series. After all, you wouldn’t feel the same way if you read too many books.

However, try to use your free time as creatively as possible by writing down all your thoughts - doing so in English would be even better.

And who knows – maybe in a few years, we’ll see a book in stores with your name on the cover. Dale
