Dear Teens,
I always feel lonely because I’m not beautiful – I think I might even be ugly. Nobody wants to talk with me, but I did nothing wrong.

Dear Blooming Flower,
I’m very sorry to hear that you feel lonely. It’s difficult when it feels like you have nobody to turn to, but you shouldn’t blame (责备) yourself.
There are a couple of things that I want to point out to you. First of all, the way you look is one of the least important things about you as a person. Your abilities, personality, and the way you treat others are what determine (决定) how well you do in life, not your appearance (外表).
List all the things that you’re good at and the things that make you a great person. Think about everything that you do that makes the world a better place, and all the kind things you’ve done to help other people. These things are what make us beautiful.
Second, your opinion of yourself may be affecting (影响) how you behave (表现) around other people. Always concentrating on (关注) how you look changes the way you act around others, and you may be shutting people out without realizing.
When you leave the house every morning, say to yourself with a smile, “I’m Blooming Flower”, and remind (提醒) yourself of the great things that make you who you are. Gradually, your confidence will increase and you’ll be more open to letting people into your life.
A great way to meet new friends is to try something fresh or different. Join some new after-school clubs and study groups, or even start your own. You’ll soon see that there are many new friends out there just waiting for you, so go share your beauty with the world. Dale
