Dear Dale,
I used to have good grades in my junior school, but after entering high school, I began to rank (排名) low in my class. Many of my classmates have good grades and they learn happily. I don’t know what I need to do to get a good place. It hurts my self-esteem (自尊). Richie

Dear Richie,
Becoming a senior is a difficult move. Not only do you have to make new friends, but your work is harder than it was before. Now, as a young adult, it’s time to get serious.
But just because things aren’t as easy as they were in junior high, that doesn’t mean you should give up. In fact, when life presents us with challenges, we should always face them as best as we can.
To try and improve your grades and be as good as you were before, there are many things you could try.
For starters, try to remember what worked well for you in junior high. For example, if you always did well in a subject because you spent extra time studying for it, you should continue that practice.
Second, don’t be afraid to ask your teachers for help. Every teacher in your school would be more than happy to make sure you do as well as possible.
Third, reach out to your fellow students (同学) for help too - especially the ones who are performing well.
By forming study groups, you’ll be able to share each other’s strengths (优点) and help each other to succeed.
Finally, don’t let other people’s performance change your self-esteem. Just remember to be yourself.
While it’s good to have competition, you should just think about yourself and how you’re performing.
There will always be people in your life who are “better” at something than you are. But no matter who you meet, nobody will ever be better than you at one thing: being you. Dale
