Dear Daniel,
I really like the Belarusian (白俄罗斯的) singer Teo. I wanted to see him in concert. My parents promised me that if I did well on my exams, they would take me to see him. But after I did so, they didn’t keep their promise. What should I do?

Dear Gulu,
Based on your short letter, I think your parents are in the wrong. They made a deal and you met your part. They didn’t do their part. You are right to feel upset.
However, I doubt they did this on purpose. Most parents want to give their children special experiences, like vacations and theme parks.
I must assume (假设) your parents are like this. They probably have a good reason for not taking you to the concert. Maybe it was too expensive. Maybe they missed the chance to buy tickets. Maybe they didn’t know how to buy tickets. Maybe the concert was too far away. They probably feel bad about it.
If you’re upset, talk to them. Calmly say that you understand if they have good reasons for not taking you. But also tell them that their deal drove you to study harder. Your grades are proof (证明) of this.
The next part is up to you. You deserve (值得) an explanation. But demanding (要求) one might make the situation worse. Instead, you might try to negotiate (商讨) some other reward. Ask them to take you and your friends out to dinner and a movie. Or maybe some time to play a video game.
Don’t worry. For Teo’s concert, you can watch the videos online. Turn off the lights and lie in bed – Teo’s exclusive (独家的) concert starts.
Daniel
