Dear Daniel,
A few days ago, a friend and I put on a performance. We posted pictures of our performance online. But another friend used the photos to make ugly emojis (表情符号), like the ones we use on WeChat. They were kind of rude (粗鲁的). We were really upset about this, but we don’t know what to say to her.

Dear Angela,
I’m sorry to read that this happened to you. It sounds like your fun time with a friend has turned into a mistake that you regret (后悔). I don’t think you did anything wrong.
Still, there are some lessons here. Whatever you put on the internet is there for the world to see. Be careful what you put online. Before posting something, ask yourself whether you want strangers to read it.
However, it sounds like you were proud of your performance. So here’s the next lesson: When you perform for the public, you will never please everyone. No matter how good you are, someone will criticize or make jokes.
As for your friend, you should say to her that her actions aren’t what a friend would do. I think she owes (亏欠) you an apology (道歉), especially if she shared these rude memes (表情包) with other people.
Finally, remember that anyone might take your published work from the internet and change it however they want. This time, it was your friend, but it could have been a stranger in another country. Many WeChat stickers are someone’s personal photos and videos, changed and used by strangers. Once you publish, you can’t stop it. You can only learn to laugh or ignore it. Jokes have no power if you can laugh at yourself. Daniel
