Dear Daniel,
As a student, I have to spend a lot of time studying. Many of my classmates wear fashionable and expensive clothes. I try not to pay attention, but I can’t help thinking about their clothes. I end up checking fashion websites online while I ought to be doing my homework. What should I do? I don’t want to fail my exams because of this.

Dear Merak,
We all have a favorite way to procrastinate (拖延). My home is never cleaner than the day that I have a deadline (最后期限). Delaying (拖延) duties is common. Sometimes our brains need the fear of a deadline to get focused.
Are fashion websites really affecting your grades? Let’s talk about priorities (优先顺序).
I’m concerned with your fashion obsession (沉迷). You’re how old – 15? Who do you need to impress? Your high-school classmates? I promise that in two years, you will have forgotten most of them even exist.
Yes, a nice outfit (套装) helps our confidence. I love it when I know I look good. But I’ve written this before: 90 percent of the time, I wear blue jeans and brown shoes.
Now all my friends are adults and we have jobs and paychecks. Most of us put fashion far down on our lists of priorities. Or we find cheap ways to look cool. I’m sure you’ve noticed that clothes are expensive! At your age, you probably don’t have much money of your own. Your job is studying.
So I say that fashion isn’t so important, but if you have only dirty or worn-out clothes, talk to your parents. They’ll probably be happy to help you get a few new outfits. No teenager needs to dress like a model, but that doesn’t mean you need to look bad when you leave the house.
Daniel
