Q
Dear Daniel,
The final exam is coming, but I cannot spare time to review for it because I have lots of homework to do every day. What should I do to adjust?
Youyou
A
Dear Youyou,
Time management is important for all students. If good scores are really important to you, it means taking away time from your personal life. This way, you can give both things the attention and care that they demand.
However, effective studying is not only about time. It’s also about the quality of your method. Don’t waste your time on things you are already good at. Focus on subjects and ideas that you don’t fully understand. A good method is to “become the teacher”. Try explaining a concept (概念) to someone else. If you can’t explain it, you need to go back and keep reading.
Additionally, you should remember the Law of Diminishing Returns (收益递减规律). Perhaps you are familiar with this. After a certain amount of time, your efforts will become less and less effective. This can be from boredom or tiredness or hunger. Take regular breaks so that your brain can relax a little bit.
In summary: Effective and efficient study methods are the best use of your time. You should also have a proper sleep schedule and eat healthy food – NOT instant noodles! As I’ve written here before, they are garbage.
Good luck!
Daniel
