Q
Dear Daniel,
I’m going through a hard time, and I need someone to talk to. My mom and I are having problems, and my friends won’t really listen. What should I do?
James

Dear James,
Life is hard without someone to share our problems with. Growing up, I didn’t always have people I could talk to. I know your pain.
Unfortunately, your “friends” don’t want to hear about it. I’m sorry to hear they’ve let you down. You may want to start looking for new ones.
In this situation, I recommend that you go online. A quick internet search showed me a bunch of (许多的) internet communities (网络社区) offering anonymous (匿名的) support and advice to teenagers. This way, you can give more details about your situation. I assume these things must also exist for Chinese-language users, but most of the ones I found are English only. If you’re worried about your English abilities, try to write in simple sentences and don’t use too many fancy words.
I don’t know if you will get useful advice, but you will surely get some people to listen. Of course, you should always be careful online. Don’t give out personal information like your name, phone number or address.
I don’t know what’s going on between you and your mother. Perhaps you are powerless to change the situation. In that case, I suggest you find a healthy outlet (发泄途径) for your frustration (沮丧) – art, music, sports, etc. You can use them to forget about your problems. Better yet, you might express your feelings in a creative way.
No matter what you choose to do, I hope you find what you need.
Daniel
