One of the main sources (来源) of comedy in literature is characters who lack self-awareness (自我认知). Mr Collins in Pride and Prejudice (《傲慢与偏见》) is a good example. Believing in his great personal merit, Collins fails to see that the women he wants to marry are disgusted (使厌恶) by him. But if you think Jane Austen making fun of Collins is too cruel, there are many gentler examples in literature. One is Adrian Mole, the young English boy imagined by author Sue Townsend and introduced in the book, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 and 3/4 (1982).
