For more than 2,000 years before trucks, trains and airplanes, the Silk Road, a series of trade routes (路线) that date back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC – AD 24), bridged the East and West. Now, in the 21st century, the spirit of this ancient trade route is being revived (复兴) thanks to a 2013 proposal from President Xi Jinping.
