A decision was made to bring down the curtain on a once-mighty basketball team. On Oct 20, the Chinese Basketball Association confirmed that both the men’s and women’s teams of the Bayi Rockets would withdraw from the country’s professional leagues (联盟). Bayi, which means August 1 in Mandarin, was founded by members of the People’s Liberation Army in 1955. The team had dominated Chinese basketball with eight CBA championships since joining the league. Fans were impressed by their indomitable (不服输的) spirit on the court. “Although Bayi bid farewell to (告别) the league, the Bayi Spirit will stay in our minds,” Du Feng, head coach of the Chinese men’s national basketball team, told The Beijing News.
