The Schumacher name is back to Formula 1. On Dec 2, Mick Schumacher, the son of the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher who retired in 2002, was officially confirmed as a race driver for American team Haas next year. “I firmly believe he’s earned the opportunity to graduate into Formula 1 based on his performances,” Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner, told the official F1 website. The 21-year-old won the F2 championship on Nov 7 after he won F3 title in 2018, which means the young driver has stepped up to F1 as both a F2 and F3 champion. “I don’t think he’s going to be matching Michael, but I still think that he has the potential. He’s shown enough so far to be a race winner and contend for world titles,” commented Lawrence Barretto, a senior writer of the official F1 website.
