Which Chinese player could make an appearance in the World Cup in the near future? It could be none other than Wu Lei. On March 23, FIFA revealed a list of 10 seasoned stars, aged 28-plus, who deserve (配得上) a World Cup. Wu Lei, 29, was included in the ranking, along with other renowned (知名的) players such as British Gareth Bale. Wu became the youngest-ever player to appear in professional (职业的) soccer in China at the age of 14. “In 2018, he became the first Asian player in 11 years to be named Chinese Super League Player of the Year,” FIFA said. He left Shanghai SIPG as the second-top scorer in Super League history and transferred (转队) to Espanyol in 2019. Wu was memorably (难忘地) impressive for “scoring a last-gasp equalizer in a match against Barcelona [in 2020],” FIFA added.
