A self-portrait (自画像) was sold for over $688,888 (about 4,523,800 yuan) in March, CNN reported. Its painter is neither Picasso nor Van Gogh. Well, it’s not even human. A robot, called Sophia, developed by the Hong Kong-based firm Hanson Robotics, created the work. Sophia first processed an image drawn by Italian artist Andrea Bonaceto with its neural network (神经网络). It then got creative and generated a new work based on the original image. Since its activation (启动) in 2016, Sophia has obtained worldwide fame for its realistic movements and complex facial expressions.
