Roberto Benigni, an Italian filmmaker and actor-comedian, will be honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, the organizers announced on April 15. He will receive the award at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, which is scheduled to be held in September. Benigni gained international fame for Life Is Beautiful (《美丽人生》) in 1997. He directed and starred in the film, which received seven Oscar nominations (提名) and won for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Actor and Best Musical Score. His last appearance on the big screen was the live-action adaptation of Pinocchio (《匹诺曹》) in 2019. “Right from his debut (出道), marked by his innovative ... approach to rules and traditions, Roberto Benigni stands out ... [among] the Italian performing arts as an unprecedented (空前的) and unequaled figure of reference,” said Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera, according to Deadline.
