The Chinese sprinter (短跑运动员) Su Bingtian is coming back! On April 24, the 31-year-old dipped under (跑进) the 10-second barrier once again. He clocked 9.98 seconds to win the men’s 100-meter race at an invitational event in Zhaoqing, Guangdong. His winning mark is the fifth fastest result on the World Athletics toplist of the season, Xinhua reported. “It has been quite a long time since my last sub-10 performance,” Su said. The last time he went under 10 seconds was in August 2018, when he clocked 9.92 seconds to win the Asian Games gold in Jakarta, Indonesia. “Thanks to the new generation of Chinese athletes, their excellent performance exerted (施加) much pressure on me, which propelled (促使) me to go all-out in the race,” he added. Su, the Asian 100-meter record-holder, is China’s best track and field hope for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games in July, South China Morning Post noted.
