People will never forget the classics. The TV series The Legend of White Snake (《新白娘子传奇》) debuted in 1992 and currently has a high score of 9.1 on Douban. But now the audience has been treated to another visual feast as White Snake (《白蛇传·情》), China’s first 4K surround sound Cantonese (粤语) opera film, was released on May 20. It received rave reviews (好评) with a score of 8.2 on Douban. The feature recruited three visual effects teams from Australia, New Zealand and Guangdong province to film nearly 1,300 special effect shots, China Daily reported. One of the stunning (震撼的) shots shows an epic disaster scene where the two snake spirits attempt to destroy Jinshan Temple. The shot is over six minutes long. White Snake also represents the Eastern aesthetic (美学). In the film, West Lake, mist (薄雾), lotuses (荷花), oil-paper umbrellas and a small bridge over the flowing stream are presented.
