Crested ibises (朱鹮) are one of the oldest birds in the world. They live in Asia (亚洲). People call them the “Oriental gem (东方宝石)”. These beautiful birds almost died out (灭绝) once. But in 1981, Chinese scientists found seven of them in the wild and saved them from disappearing (消失). May 23 was the 40th anniversary (周年) of the comeback of the birds.
