Dancing underwater like a goddess

本文作者: TEENS

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, internet users were wowed by a breathtaking Chinese traditional dance underwater performance named The Prayer (《祈》). It aired on Henan TV on June 12. The dancer He Haohao, a former synchronized  swimmer (花样游泳运动员), recreated the elegance of the Goddess of Luo River, a character depicted in a classic prose written more than 1,800 years ago by Cao Zhi from the Three Kingdoms period (220-280). “Her body soars lightly like a startled swan. Gracefully, like a dragon in flight (翩若惊鸿,婉若游龙),” Cao described the goddess in the poem. Viewers thought the dancer perfectly represented such a beautiful figure. Many viewers commented that every frame of the underwater dance looked like a mural (壁画). But working underwater wasn’t easy. It took the team 26 hours to film the entire dance, according to the show’s director, Guo Jiyong.
