Sept 8 was International Literacy Day (国际扫盲日). The theme of this year was narrowing the digital gap (缩小数字鸿沟). According to UNESCO (联合国教科文组织), at least 773 million youth and adults in the world can’t read or write today. International Literacy Day started in 1967. It is to remind people that literacy is a matter of dignity (尊严) and human rights. Chad (乍得) is one of the countries with high illiteracy rates (文盲率). Only 31 percent of men and 14 percent of women can read and write, according to UNESCO.
