BBC going to new English programming

The English language teaching programmes of the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) have been an essential English learning tool for millions of people around the world for 60 years.
But, under new restructuring plans, the short-wave broadcasts to many regions will cease. The company will concentrate instead on putting more programmes on local FM stations and using Internet.
The new programming will be aimed at students in three groups: China, the Islamic world (with a focus on Iran and Egypt) and global learners. They will be able to hear weekly ELT programmes on BBC's main English-only frequencies.
In response to this change, BBC's official website has a new "Learning English" section. It includes news English, business English, watch and listen, grammar and vocabulary, communicating, quizzes, and teacher sections. English learners can listen to news stories and do language exercises.
The "teachers" section links to a website specially designed for and by teachers. It is jointly run by the BBC and British Council. The site contains articles and advice on teaching, teaching tips teachers can use in class, lesson plans, practical activities. It also gives English teachers the opportunity to send in teaching related questions and suggestions.
