Rivers breed (孕育) civilization. As their water runs forward, they bring stable sources of nourishment (滋养) to our lives and balance the ecosystem. President Xi Jinping said in 2017 at the 19th Communist Party of China National Congress, “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets (绿水青山就是金山银山).” Building an ecological civilization has been a national focus over recent years, with the goal of bringing back and maintaining the harmonious coexistence (共存) among humanity, all other living creatures and nature. Our rivers have seen changes too – different types of birds flying above wetlands and farmers harvesting merrily on the lands irrigated (灌溉) by rivers are evidence of this.
