English in the new EU

  中欧国家普及英语


  The new language of choice in central Europe is English. Three out of four secondary-school pupils from the Baltic to the Balkans are studying the language, according to The Economist. Central European countries have mostly joined or are waiting to join the European Union, where English is the dominant language. The EU uses three main languages — English, French and German. As more countries join the EU, with English as their means of communication, it will push the other two languages to the side.

  澳大利亚英语教学组织强强联手


  The Australian Centre for Language (ACL) has given the Australian EFL industry a boost by acquiring the Australian College of English (ACE) and the Australian Campus Network (ACN). This move has brought the largest private ELT provider in the country, ACL, together with the longest-established, ACE. "This allows the group to compete strongly in international English language training," said ACL's managing director Helen Zimmerman.
