Within its 85-year film-making history, most female leading characters in Disney have looked the same. Yet, things have recently changed. Disney’s first plus-size female leading character debuted in a short film called Reflect. The six-minute animation (动画片) tells the story of Bianca, a young ballet dancer (芭蕾舞者). She fights against her own reflection and wins over doubt and fear with “her inner strength, grace (优雅) and power”. The Disney animation artist Hillary Bradfield said she hoped viewers could “feel more positively about themselves and how they look” after watching the short film.
