A team of mathematicians from the University of Arkansas, US, discovered the first shape that can cover a wall without ever creating a repeating pattern, which is known as aperiodic tiling (非周期性平铺). The shape, which looks like a “hat”, has 13 sides in total. Previous studies had only achieved this by using at least two shapes.
