The C919 was welcomed by a water salute (水门) at Beijing Capital International Airport on May 28. C919 is China’s first self-developed large passenger aircraft (大型客机), a model similar in size to the Airbus 320 and Boeing 737. On that day the aircraft took its first commercial flight (商业飞行). Carrying 130 passengers, the aircraft traveled from Shanghai to Beijing. The water salute is a tradition to celebrate a plane’s first flight. Two water cannons (高压水枪) shower the plane from two sides. Sometimes, the salute creates a rainbow (彩虹).
