On Sept 21, the 7th Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival (PYIFF) released its film list, which includes 53 films from 34 countries and regions. This year’s PYIFF is themed “Modern Times” – the same name as actor and filmmaker Charles Chaplin’s famous film in 1936. This is to “reflect on the future through a retrospective (回顾展) of classic films”, according to the festival’s official website. The festival was founded by Chinese director Jia Zhangke. It focuses on new non-Western films and dedicates itself to providing a platform for young filmmakers.
