The League of Legends (LOL) Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage started on Oct 19, with teams JDG, WBG, LNG and BLG representing China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL). This was the first time that the Swiss Stage was applied in a world championship for LOL. The Swiss Stage is known as the fairest gaming system. In the initial round, teams are paired up randomly. After the first round, teams with identical win-loss records face off until the end of the championship. It is named after its first appearance at a chess tournament in 1895 in Zurich, Switzerland. This year, LPL made history at the LOL Worlds, with all its four teams making it to the final eight.
