Have you ever considered what could be hiding beneath a river’s surface? In the case of the Amazon River, it’s human faces! Recently, the Amazon River’s water level reached historically low levels during the worst drought in over a century in the region. But with lowering water levels came a new discovery: a rock with human faces from up to 2,000 years ago and a variety of never-before-seen rock carvings (雕刻品). According to Reuters, one area showed that the area belonged to Indigenous inhabitants (土著居民) who once sharpened their arrows and spears (矛) long before Europeans arrived. Archaeologist Jaime de Santana Oliveira said that these newfound rock carvings would “help researchers establish their origins”.
