In Iceland, around 1,400 earthquakes were measured over a 24-hour period on Nov 9, with another 800 in the first 14 hours of Nov 10, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO). Due to the potential connection between these frequent quakes and volcanic eruptions (火山喷发), the country declared a state of emergency on Nov 11. Around 4,000 people were evacuated from the coastal town of Grindavik since “the likelihood of a volcanic eruption” in the near future was “considerable” in the town, reported The New York Times.
