In a survey, as much as 62.6 percent of Japanese people said they never read a book, not even an electronic (电子的) one, in a month, reported NHK on Sept 17. This was an increase of more than 15 percentage points (百分点) from five years ago. The survey was conducted by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (文化厅) with more than 3,550 people. The agency thinks this is because people are using phones more. Also, there are fewer bookstores now, so people no longer see books that often. In the future, the agency wants to help people find more ways to enjoy reading.
