On June 13, Israel launched air strikes on Tehran and several other cities in Iran. Israeli military spokesman Effie Defrin said the strikes were meant to weaken Iran’s nuclear program and military forces to reduce the threat to people in Israel. However, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a speech on June 16 that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons (核武器) and has the right to use nuclear energy and conduct nuclear research for the benefit of society. After being attacked, Iran fired missiles (导弹) at targets in Israel.
